Harvard Elections are Open—See Our Recommendations Here

Live Not by Lies

Aleksandr Solzhenitsyn

“If not the tenets and ideals of liberal democracy, if not individual human liberty and human dignity, what are the set of principles informing the University’s direction and purpose?”

Read our letter to the Presidential Search Committee sent in September 2022.

After the resignation of Claudine Gay, our letter is more urgent than ever as a new committee begins the process anew…

Who we are.

The FAIR Harvard Alumni+ Chapter brings together Harvard Alumni and current Harvard University students, faculty, staff and parents of undergrads who support the mission and principles of the Foundation Against Intolerance and Racism (FAIR), a nonpartisan organization dedicated to advancing civil rights and liberties for all Americans, and promoting a common culture based on fairness, understanding and humanity.

FAIR Executive Director Monica Harris (JD '91), along with FAIR Board of Advisors members Andrew Sullivan (MPA ’86, PhD ’90), Nadine Strossen (AB ‘72, JD ‘75) and Stephen Hawkins (MPP ‘16) are among the Harvard Alumni standing up for civil rights and liberties for all Americans while promoting a common culture based on fairness, understanding and humanity. We hope that you will join us, too.

Why we exist.

FAIR’s founding and exponential growth speak to an unmet need—a nonpartisan voice for civil rights, civil liberties and tolerance during a time when these tenets of a free society have been cast as optional or even harmful.

The FAIR Harvard Alumni Chapter was founded in 2021 to represent, gather and connect all FAIR-minded members of the Harvard University community. As part of the Harvard community, we share in what we believe is Harvard’s responsibility as a global beacon of free thought and unfettered inquiry.

We are fierce defenders of civil rights, civil liberties and tolerance. We also believe that freedom of speech, viewpoint diversity and intellectual freedom are essential to the pursuit of truth and to a free, democratic and pluralistic society.

VERITAS: Live Up to It.

We understand that truth is not something to be endowed, but discovered; the pursuit of truth a lifelong journey.

The courage to think freely and independently in the pursuit of truth sets our FAIR HA+ members apart and brings us together at this pivotal moment for education and our civil society. Please join us.
